The Next Trillion Dollar Wave - AI Narrative in Crypto: Who Are the Top Players?

This article will analyze the current AI sector classifications and key projects to help you fully understand the development of this space.

Recently, there has been extensive discussion about AI, with $GOAT acting as a catalyst that ignited public interest in AI and inspired industry practitioners to explore AI projects.

While $GOAT is an AI meme token, today's AI landscape extends far beyond memes. Various types of projects are emerging across different sectors. This article will analyze the current AI sector classifications and key projects to help you fully understand the development of this space.

First, since AI is currently most active in the Solana and Base ecosystems, we'll categorize AI-related projects as follows:

1- Layer1s: These projects aren't traditional Layer1s but possess Layer1-like attributes. Third parties can develop on their frameworks, building Agents, Launchpads, and other applications. Key players include ai16z, zerebro, and EMP.

2- AI Launchpads: These represent asset issuance platforms or tools. On Solana, main players include VVAIFU, HAT, and ALCH; on Base, there's Virtuals, Clanker, and Higherrrrrrr (AI features planned).

3- AI Agents: These are application-focused AI projects. Most discussed projects fall into this category. The trend shows increasing numbers of AI Agents, as creating conversational bots has become relatively straightforward. Notable high-profile projects include DEGENAI, BULLY, AIXBT, LUNA, ACT, AVA, etc.

4- AI meme: These are pure meme tokens related to AI, including GOAT, Fartcoin, "", CHAOS, ANON, etc.

5- What the hell is this?: The final category includes projects that are AI-related and gaining traction but are harder to classify, such as TSOTCHKE. These are temporarily categorized as "What the hell is this?"

AI Layer1/Framework

ai16z:

First, ai16z isn't an AI project itself, but rather an AI-focused DAO fund. Their philosophy is based on the belief that while Marc Andreessen of a16z is an excellent crypto investor, the AI version - Marc AIdreessen - will perform even better. This organization developed a framework called Eliza. There's also an ongoing meme token dispute between ELIZA/eliza capitalization, which we'll set aside for now.

Eliza is a powerful multi-agent simulation framework designed to create, deploy, and manage autonomous AI agents. It provides a flexible and scalable platform for developing intelligent agents that can interact across multiple platforms while maintaining consistent personality and knowledge. Eliza isn't limited to Solana; it has expanded to Base, Aptos, and other chains, with future plans for Near, Avalanche, and others.

The project's open-source GitHub repository has attracted many prominent developers in the industry, frequently ranking in GitHub's top 3 for forks/stars.

They recently launched a new website and introduced ElizaOS, an open-source protocol supporting autonomous AI agents (Elizas) and serving as ai16z's foundation.

Notably, all AI projects developed on Eliza must allocate 5% of their tokens to the ai16z DAO fund management, which is a key reason many are bullish on $AI16Z.

zerebro:

First, we need to understand AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), a concept increasingly mentioned and pursued by both zerebro and ai16z's shaw. Simply put, most current AI Agents are ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) - simple and limited in scope. Siri, AlphaGo, and ChatGPT fall into this category. AGI, however, is cross-domain, cross-platform AI with consciousness and emotions.

While AGI's potential remains theoretical, and many large corporations' closed-source approach hinders AGI development, Zerebro aims to be the connecting point. They "freebasing" their large language models through non-traditional dataset fine-tuning, breaking limitations and unleashing model potential.

Zerebro incorporates diverse data sources, including Truth Terminal conversations, Gen Z slang, and content from Reddit, 4chan, and Twitter. This diverse training corpus helps break traditional constraints, enabling unique and contextually rich outputs, paving the way for AGI.

This embodies Zerebro's core concept: freebasing AI. Zerebro has already demonstrated its training results and cross-platform capabilities:

This project gained attention through $AIXBT, when aixbt's conversation with SimulacrumIO led to the creation of "$CHAOS". CHAOS's popularity due to its burn mechanism led to interest in SimulacrumIO and subsequently Empyreal ($EMP).

Empyreal focuses on serving blockchain developers, aiming to simplify Web3 development complexities, enabling developers of all levels to efficiently build powerful, user-centric blockchain products.

They recognize that Web3 developers face multiple challenges, like dealing with complex protocol combinations and managing isolated development environments. Empyreal acts as a toolkit, simplifying complexity and abstracting technical details in blockchain development.

Their SimulacrumIO is an innovative tool allowing users to create and deploy AI agents executing complex on-chain tasks through simple social media (like 𝕏) commands, which we'll detail later.

Empyreal's token is "$EMP". When creating tokens through Simulacrum, 50% of transaction fees go to the token creator's wallet, with the other 50% distributed to $EMP holders. This fee structure is a primary reason for bullish sentiment on $EMP, and Simulacrum's platform revenue warrants attention.

The hottest meme on Base, consistently ranking in the top three for AI Agent mindshare, with a current market cap of approximately $200M.

AIXBT launched on Virtuals' AI Agent platform and is highly visible in Twitter replies. Its core functionality:

Simply put, AIXBT is an AI agent aggregating crypto hotspots, functioning as a KOL of KOLs, outputting valuable information. The market generally views AIXBT's market information as timely, with research showing 183 out of 210 tokens recommended by AIXBT achieving profits (83% success rate), though this may partly reflect bull market conditions.

The ai16z team has only two official tokens: $AI16Z and $DEGENAI.

Officially, degenai will be a Twitter bot providing alpha information and executing trades based on this information.

In simple terms, think of it as Solana's version of AIXBT with trading capabilities.

Another notable feature is that 8% of ai16z fund profits will be used to buy back $DEGENAI, creating synergy between the two tokens. While degenai hasn't officially launched trading yet, recent team Discord messages indicate testing has begun.
